Holibae
Happy New Year Ladies and Gents!
I hope that the new year is treating you all in a positive way thus far. The weather has decided to creep toward almost 60 over the past few days, so I'm going to take that as a sign of better things to come! Now I know that we are more than halfway through January at this point with things like Christmas in the rear view mirror. However, I believe that today's topic will still hold some sort of relevance in our respective walks.
So if you've had any sort of experience similar to me, then you have witnessed the overly excessive amount of new engagements/relationships/situationships that take place around the holidays. The name that we're giving to these surprise new characters we meet via pictures in our friends/associates lives are "holibaes" because often times they don't seem to make an appearance until big holidays. It's like we don't even see these individuals on story lines or anything until that December 25th post and surprise! Introducing the world to my man/woman, aren't they pretty :-) lol.
Now by no means am I hating on these new relationships coming into full bloom because it's quite a beautiful thing! I'm just genuinely curious about what makes folks wait until these big holidays to introduce baes to the world. I'm not going to act like I have the answer because I honestly have no clue, but we're going to try to get down to the bottom of this phenomenon!
My first theory on why holibaes are so common is simply because it's a time of year that is usually full of happy spirits, warm hearts and just positive vibes in the air overall. With this being the case, it may cause people to be more prone to having a "Hey, I'm feeling really good right now. Why not go ahead and make this thing real?" type of mindset. I will say it's less likely that someone is in a hurry to post a lovey dovey pic when they're in more of a bleh type of mood. During the holiday season, there could be less of a "meh" feeling in the air, and that could lead to an influx of holibae sightings.
Another possibility I've come up with is that folks are saving money on Christmas cards. Now I know this one may sound a little foolish, but hear me out! A person may not want to bombard our news feeds with 100+ pics of them and their PYT(Google it) throughout the calendar year. Instead, they make sure to get that one dope picture taken for the holidays and then share it with the masses. Rather than spending money to mail out countless Christmas cards, they can hit all of their followers on social media with that special pic instantaneously! It's pretty ingenious if you ask me, but maybe I'm way off and there's another reason.
My final theory on the holibae boom is that it makes for better backdrops for the potential photo shoots. We all know that Christmas time comes with an overloaded amount of lights, ornaments, Santas walking around, etc. These are aspects of the environment that aren't typically seen out in the streets on a random day in August(no shade to August birthdays). I mean let's face it, who wouldn't love to have a big ole Christmas tree lit up behind them and their ornament-looking bae? I know I'd choose that over a selfie together in front of the local Chipotle. I mean that could be cute, I guess, but it's not thinking out of the box that much, you know? Christmas tree > Chipotle front door.
Now, I'm sure that these theories of mine are just hitting the surface on the possible reasons why holibaes seem to have become the norm. With that being said, if you have any ideas of your own regarding why boos get introduced to the world on holidays more often than normal days please let me know at pitts16@gmail.com, because I'd love to hear your thoughts. And I wish all of you potential holibaes for 2018 the best. Get your outfits/captions ready now!
